Well that was 2008 now we have the travel bug it is hard to stay home, so this year we headed up to Darwin for a month to see our second son who is living there.
As we had done the Stuart Highway last year, combined with the fact that we will be going up and down this highway quite a lot over the next few years visiting, we decided to just go straight up there and spend most of our time looking around up there.
It never ceases to amaze me the beautiful country we live in. Our landscapes are inspiring and our sunsets and sunrises are just gorgeous.(yes I was up early enough some days to see the sunrise) .With the help of the “Camps 4” bible on free camp spots we spent 3 nights camping out in our trusty little caravan meeting up with interesting people from all walks of life. We arrived on our 4th day and booked into the Oasis Caravan Part near Howard Springs for 1 week. This beautiful and peaceful park, with great neighbors, would have to be one of the quietest parks I have ever stayed in. Now, I like an odd glass of bubbly it was so quiet I am sure everyone knew I was having a glass because the pop of the cork could be heard all over the park.
Our second week was spent helping Ron (our son) move into his new unit. Ron took us out on our very own Harbour Cruise so it was lovely to watch the sun go down on the water relaxing with a champers. We spent quite a bit of time fishing in the creeks, keeping one eye on the rod and one eye on the crocodiles swimming past. Very interesting creatures I might say. Every so often I would get the feeling I was being watched and you guessed it, I was…. by a prehistoric crustacean. (We came to a great arrangement I left them alone so they thankfully left me alone).
Our third week was spent at Woolianna Caravan Park on the Daly River Barramundi fishing. Beautiful weather, beautiful park, a real oasis at the end of a dusty road. One of the mornings I was up early to go and TRY to catch a Barramundi was very cold, I took a beautiful photo with the mist rising of the water. This year the great barramundi was elusive for me but my hubby and son caught a couple and I might say they were very very yummy. While we were there we met up with some very good friends from home who were travelling around Australia (yes I was very envious) so another evening of merriment was had by all, although this park wasn’t quite as quiet so my champers corks were not quite as noisy.
Anyway all good things must come to an end and back to work I come to look after my lovely customers………and yes our 2010 holiday has been planned already.
