What is Flax Flour?

Our Stoney Creek Flax flour is made by grinding our flaxseed meal into a fine powder.

Flax flour is a nutritious ingredient that is rich in fibre, protein, lignans, healthy fats (including omega-3 fatty acids), as well as various vitamins and minerals and it is gaining popularity due to its health benefits.

Flaxseed flour is gluten-free and can be used as a substitute for other flours in baking recipes such as muffins, bread, pancakes and cookies. However, due to its high fibre content, it can affect the texture and moisture of baked goods, so adjustments in the recipe may be necessary.

When using flaxseed flour in baking, it is often recommended to replace only a portion of the regular flour in the recipe to avoid altering the texture too much. A common guid

eline is to substitute up to 25% of the total flour with flaxseed flour. It can also be used as a thickener or binder in recipes, similar to how eggs or other binding agents are used.

Flaxseed flour is also commonly used as a nutritional supplement by adding it to soups, yoghurt, oatmeal, or other foods to increase the fibre and nutrient content.

Flaxseed flour has a shorter shelf life compared to whole flaxseeds due to the increased surface area exposed to air. To maintain its freshness and prevent oxidation, you can store flaxseed flour in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

You can easily create your own Flaxseed Flour as you need simply by grinding some of our Flaxseed Meal to the consistency you desire.
