Australian Seed market update

It saddens us to be announcing that we have come to the end of our Australian Organic Brown Flaxseed. We have exhausted the Australian Seed market and have had to look outside Australia for a temporary solution to fulfill our commitments. The seed that we have purchased is of highest quality and not from China or India. It is Certified Organic and we have conducted full testing here in Australia before we purchased it, to guarantee safety and quality. It is some of the best seed that we have seen and processed here at Stoney Creek, comparing favourably with the best Australian grown.

Seed Availability

Difficulty in obtaining seed is not something that is new to us here at Stoney Creek Oils.

We understand how important it is to eat and live well by choosing Organic, free range, grass fed, sustainably grown etc. And this is achievable if you are a home producer or have the ability to source these things from other local producers.

But producing these things in a commercial manner can be difficult with individual threats that our farmers face. Growing Linseed Organically is not free from those threats.

Apart from weeds and unreliable rain events the biggest threat to Organic Linseed is the Heliothis Grub. For you that enjoy gardening, imagine trying to control cabbage moth in 4-5 football fields of organic cabbages. Organic food production in your home garden is manageable but commercially can be very difficult!

I am going to share with you some photo’s that I have taken of the seed that is available to us currently so that you can understand why we make the decisions we do.

Recipes

Whiz nuts and seeds in a food processor until like bread crumbs. Add dried fruits and whiz until smooth. Add other ingredients, saving coconut for coating. Make sure you have a sturdy food processor - or you can finish mixing by hand (the mixture can become quite hard and sticky). Roll into 2-3cm balls and roll in coconut. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Quark Mayo

In a blender, combine oil, milk and Quark.  Add lemon juice/vinegar, mustard and salt. Add fresh herbs (eg dill, marjoram, mint, chives) to suit.

Almond Lemon Crumble & Asparagus

Combine ingredients in a food processor and whiz until finely chopped. Steam fresh asparagus for five minutes and serve with quark mayo and almond lemon crumble.
